It sounds counterintuitive. December feels a world away. But here's the reality: right now, the end of the financial year is the single best moment to start thinking about your end of year event. Not because it's fun to plan six months ahead, but because the alternative is expensive, stressful and leaves you choosing from what's left rather than what you actually want.
We've been planning and catering end of year events across Brisbane for years. This is what we know.
(More than ever)
Before we get into the logistics, it's worth pausing on the why.
End of year events and corporate Christmas parties are sometimes written off as a nice-to-have — a line item that gets scrutinised when budgets tighten. But the research tells a different story.
Reward Gateway's 2025 Workplace Engagement Index found that just 23% of Australian employees feel appreciated at work — a significant drop from 38% the year prior — and that recognition is now the number one driver of productivity for 43% of workers. Meanwhile, Gallup and Workhuman's longitudinal research found that employees who receive high-quality recognition are 45% less likely to leave within two years.
The end of year celebration is one of the most visible, tangible expressions of that recognition. It's the moment a business says: we see the effort you've put in, and we value it.
Done well, it strengthens culture, boosts morale heading into the new year, and gives people a shared moment to decompress, connect and celebrate wins that can too easily get lost in the day-to-day. For your clients, it's an opportunity to reinforce relationships that matter. For your leadership team, it's a rare moment to stand in front of the whole organisation and acknowledge what's been achieved together.
The end of year event isn't a party. It's a strategic investment in your people — and one with real returns.

There's a reason the most experienced event organisers in Brisbane start having conversations about their end of year event the moment their EOFY event wraps up.
They know what they like. They know what works. And they know that waiting costs them.
Brisbane's best corporate event venues — especially the ones with genuine atmosphere, flexible spaces and strong supplier relationships — don't sit empty waiting for you to get around to it. The most in-demand venues receive enquiries from their returning clients before the paint has dried on last year's Christmas party. These are businesses that have found something that works: a venue their team loves, an experience their guests remember, and a format that delivers. They simply rebook and refine.
For everyone else, the race begins sometime in September — and by then, the landscape looks very different.
Brisbane Venue Availability: The Windows You're Competing For
Brisbane is a thriving corporate events market, and at the end of the year, you are competing with thousands of other local businesses for the same dates, the same venues and the same suppliers.
Through years of forecasting and planning events across the city, we've identified the dates that disappear first:
Thursday evenings — the sweet spot between mid-week energy and end-of-week anticipation
Friday afternoons and evenings — the classic send-off into the weekend, and a crowd favourite for cocktail-style events
Early December dates — getting in before office closures and school holidays begin
Dates before school holidays commence — critical for teams with young families, where attendance drops sharply once the kids are out
These windows go fast. Not mid-October fast — July and August fast. And once they're gone, the ripple effect hits your other choices: limited venue options push you toward alternative dates, which limits your supplier availability, which changes your catering options, which affects your budget flexibility.
Waiting doesn't save money. It reduces choice — and usually costs more in the end.

Before you book anything, it's worth taking stock of what kind of event you're actually planning. Not all end of year events are the same, and the lead time required varies significantly depending on your objectives.
For intimate team celebrations (under 50 guests): You have a little more flexibility, but venue hold dates fill quickly even for smaller spaces. Starting three to four months out is still strongly recommended.
For mid-sized corporate Christmas parties (50–150 guests): You'll need alignment across multiple stakeholders, decisions on format (cocktail vs. seated dining vs. shared feast), entertainment bookings and catering style. Venue hold dates for this cohort tend to disappear from July onwards for preferred dates.
For large-scale corporate functions (150+ guests): This is where early planning becomes non-negotiable. Events of this scale typically involve:
Multiple decision-makers and stakeholders — getting alignment takes time
Awards presentations and run-of-show scheduling — scripting, timing and rehearsals all need to be built in
Entertainment — quality live acts, MCs and DJs book out early, especially for the December window
Significant AV requirements — production-level events need early technical site visits and equipment holds
Custom catering experiences — bespoke menus, dietary management at scale, interactive food stations and staffing ratios all require detailed planning
The best large-scale events look effortless on the night because the groundwork was laid months in advance. That sense of ease is a direct product of planning time.

For organisations looking for a venue with genuine character — one that doesn't feel like a hotel ballroom — Brisbane Powerhouse is one of the city's most versatile and beloved event spaces.
Situated on the river at New Farm, the Powerhouse's industrial heritage and striking architecture create a backdrop that requires very little styling to feel impressive. The spaces range from intimate to large-scale, making it suitable for everything from cocktail functions and networking events through to conference-style end of year celebrations and gala dinners.
KEY SPACES & CAPACITIES:
Space | Cocktail | Seated |
|---|---|---|
Powerhouse Theatre | 500 pax | 320 pax |
Rooftop Terrace | 150 pax | 80 pax |
River Studio | 100 pax | 80 pax |
Riverbend Terrace | 90 pax | 40 pax |
What makes Brisbane Powerhouse particularly well-suited to end of year events is the flexibility to build your event around your objectives — whether that's a formal awards night, a relaxed cocktail celebration or a multi-space conference with an evening function.
As Wine & Dine'm's longest-standing venue partner, we know the Powerhouse inside and out. That relationship means streamlined coordination, tailored menus and full-service catering support — so your event runs without a hitch.

If you want your end of year event to make a statement, Fortitude Music Hall is one of Brisbane's most impressive large-format event spaces.
Located in Fortitude Valley, the Main Auditorium is designed for scale and impact — the kind of venue that creates an atmosphere the moment guests walk in.
KEY SPACES & CAPACITIES:
Space | Format | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
Main Auditorium | Banquet | 480 pax |
Main Auditorium | Theatre | 1,100 pax |
Main Auditorium | Cocktail | 2,000 pax |
The Outpost Bar | Cocktail | Mezzanine level |
One of the most compelling aspects of Fortitude Music Hall for end of year functions is the natural event flow it enables. A formal awards dinner in the Main Auditorium can transition seamlessly into a VIP after-party in The Outpost Bar on the mezzanine level — without relocating guests or breaking the energy of the night. The result is an event that feels dynamic and complete, rather than awkwardly stitched together.
For larger organisations looking to reward teams at scale, few Brisbane venues match the production capability and sheer atmosphere of Fortitude Music Hall.

Once the venue is secured, it's easy to assume the hard part is done. It isn't.
The most memorable end of year events are built from a series of well-considered decisions that take time to get right:
Guest experience — What do you want people to feel when they arrive? How do they move through the event? What are the moments they'll talk about on Monday morning?
Catering format — Are you hosting a formal seated dinner, a relaxed shared feast, a cocktail event with substantial canapés, or interactive food stations? Each format changes the feel of the entire night, and your caterer needs time to design, price and prepare accordingly.
Entertainment — Quality live musicians, bands, MCs and DJs book out quickly for the December window. The further out you engage them, the better the talent available at your budget.
Flow and run of show — For events with awards presentations, speeches or structured programming, a detailed run sheet needs to be built, tested and briefed across your venue, AV team and caterer. This doesn't happen overnight.
Styling and production — Lighting, floral, linen, theming — the suppliers who do this best are the ones who are booked early and given enough lead time to do their best work.
The venue is the container. Everything else is what fills it — and what makes people remember the night.

If you're reading this in June or July and your end of year event is still just a conversation in someone's calendar, here's a simple starting checklist:
Agree on the brief — approximate guest numbers, preferred format (cocktail vs. seated), date range and budget envelope
Approach preferred venues — hold dates disappear quickly; you can always release a hold if plans change
Engage your caterer — Given an adequate lead time, our team can create the menu of your dreams or something even better than you can imagine!
Brief your entertainment — MCs, bands and AV teams fill their diaries for December from mid-year
Lock in key suppliers — photographers, stylists and florists all have limited availability for December
The decisions can be refined as you go. What can't be recovered is a lost venue hold or a preferred date that someone else has already locked in.
Whether you're planning an intimate team dinner or a large-scale Brisbane corporate function for hundreds of guests, the best time to start is before you feel like you need to.
We work with some of Brisbane's most sought-after venues and bring years of experience planning corporate Christmas parties and end of year events that people actually enjoy.
